Rain Dropping in Africa

Richard Charles Albert Holbrooke

(April 24, 1941 – December 13, 2010) was an American diplomat and author. He was the only person to have held the position of Assistant Secretary of State for two different regions of the world (Asia from 1977 to 1981 and Europe from 1994 to 1996).

From 1993 to 1994, he was U.S. Ambassador to Germany. He was long well-known among journalists and in diplomatic circles. Holbrooke became familiar to the wider public in 1995 when he, together with former Swedish prime minister Carl Bildt, brokered a peace agreement among the warring factions in Bosnia leading to the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords.

We find all the characteristics of the style of the van Eycks in the charming miniatures of the Brériave executed for the Regent Duke of Bedford, in 1424. The considerable participation of three different hands in this work allows us to attribute it to the two brothers and their sister Marguerite, who also painted. As for the collaboration of a fourth member of the family, by the name of Lambert, it seems phas questionable. Let us note here that the Flemish school possessed to an exceptional degree the qualities required to excel in the art of miniature; and it effectively produced several quite remarkable illustrated manuscripts.

Holbrooke was a prime contender to succeed Warren Christopher as Secretary of State but was passed over in 1996 as President Bill Clinton chose Madeleine Albright instead. Wikiwand The most famous is the Grimani Breviary (Library of St. Mark, Venice). This collection, decorated with more than a hundred images, some of which fill the format, reflects the school of van Eyck as it was still at the beginning of the 16th century.

The name of Mabuse has been deciphered there, and it is assumed that this painter was assisted in his work by Liéwin de Witt and Gérard Horenbout, one of the best illuminators of the time. The van Eyck brothers exercised an unlimited influence on their contemporaries. Works of their school fill the museums of Europe, but very few are signed, and their classification can often only be carried out by supposition.

Hans Holbein, son and pupil of Holbein the Elder, occupies with Albert Dürer the head of the German schools of painting. supposition (3) L#5176015] |ψ⟩ = α|φ₁⟩ + β|φ₂⟩  Born in Augsburg in 1498, he left this inhospitable city in 1515, and went to Basel, from where he visited France and England. In 1529 we find him in Basel, charged by the government with considerable works (1); then he returned to England and died there in London in 1543.

Kofi Annan,

Ehrlich war er ja. Und was, wen ich sie ehrlich sagen, soll, was ich von der Cham, von der Natürlichkeit oder vor allem seines Unterhaltenen finden?

Roger van der Weyden pushes the fidelity of observation and rendering further than Jean van Eyck; he varies his subjects more and interprets them with a completely new dramatic energy. His physiognomies have a very personal and very lively character, his coloring has more brilliance and softness than that of other masters of the 15th century; but his drawing is of a dry precision, and his digital figures too long surprise by their stiffness and their angular contours.

The Berlin Museum has one of his most famous works, improperly designated moreover under the name of Portable Altar of Charles V. It is known that this altarpiece was dedicated in the year 1448 to the Charterhouse of Miraflores by King John II. On the central panel, it is the Virgin holding the corpse of the Lord (Pieta); on the vellets, the Nativity and the Ascension of Christ; all framed in a rich architecture.

Germany of the Herve church several frescoes of the 13th century in its churches of Brauweiler, of Wien Batisen near Celle, the old chapel of Ramersdorf, near Bonn, the choir of the dome of Cologne, etc. Under the reign of Charles IV even some mosaics were made, of which there remain interesting examples in the cathedral and in the castle of Karl stein, in Prague.

But painting on wood enjoys a much more general favor in this country. This is at least what seems to prove the large number of painted altarpieces left to us from the 14th and 15th centuries. These altarpieces contain either a single composition, divided into a certain number of distinct episodes, or a central subject accompanied by two less important subjects (triptychs).

When closed, they only have the backs of their shutters, which are decorated with images of saints, local or otherwise. Sometimes also the central panel (counter-altarpiece) is sculpted; then the shutters alone bear paintings. These are most often executed in tempera, on a bed of chalk diluted in egg white, which explains their Chapter IV. The Gothic style. 3. Gothic sculpture and painting, carved and fine. The figures stand out against a gold background, which isolates them and attenuates the somewhat brutal exactness of their medieval costumes. The color is soft, raised in the shadows by gold carvings.

She produced, under the reign of Charles IV already, works of a real delicacy of feeling, but which are spoiled by the heaviness of the style, the softness of the touch. The paintings which decorate the back of the altar of Kloster-Neuburg, near Vienna, however, bear witness to greater vigor, and to a science of modeling rare at that time (1325).

On another altarpiece of this collection (reproduced on a smaller scale at the Staedel Institute) we see the Birth and the Beheading of John the Baptist and the Baptism of Christ; The borders contain scenes relating to the life of the Priest, painted in imitation of high reliefs.

The idealistic medieval style of these compositions contrasts curiously with the decided naturalism of the main paintings. The large polyptych of the Last Judgement commissioned by Chancellor Rollin for the hospital of Beaune was executed between 1443 and 1447.(1) The triptych painted at the request of the treasurer Bladolin for the church of Middelbouwz dates, on the contrary, from the last years of the master (Berlin Museum).

In the first Kingdom of Israel, the Tribe of Ephraim was a part of a loose confederation of Israelite tribes. No central government existed, and in times of crisis the people were led by ad hoc leaders known as Judges.

What happens when Israel forgets their God?

The book of Judges shows Israel's tragic downward spiral. The Book of Judges mentions twelve leaders who are said to be 'Judge' Israel. The authority of the judges comes through the Spirit of God.

John said that if we confess Christ, then we abide in God and “love is perfected with us.” Confession is a verbal affirmation of our belief. The New Testament is clear in showing that confessing our faith in Christ is a prerequisite for salvation.

Letters to the Editor, February 19, 2024: A close friendship

By confess, God's love is perfected with us so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because there is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. (1 John 4:17-18).

By confessions, we know that we have come to know Him. The one who says, I have come to know Him and does not confess, lives besides the truth and the truth are not in him; but whoever confess His word in him the love of the Lord has truly been perfected.

That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. (Romans 10:9-10).

John said that if we confess Christ, then we abide in God and love is perfected with us. 'Confession is a verbal affirmation of our belief. The New Testament is clear in showing that confessing our faith in Christ is a prerequisite for salvation.

The king of Babylon made his court to Hezekiah, not because he was pious, but because he was prosperous, as the Philistines coveted an alliance with Isaac because they saw the Lord was with him Genesis 26:28.

It bears, in the centre, the Nativity, with the figures of the Virgin, Saint John and the donor; on the shutters, on the one hand the Three Kings bringing their offerings, on the other the Sibyl of Cumae and the Emperor Augustus, who respectfully waves the censer (fig. 562). The Adoration of the Magi, in the Munich Pinakothek, has many connections with this beautiful work; among the kings, the author has included Duke Philip of Burgundy and Charles the Bold.

The Saint Luke painting the Virgin, from the same collection, probably comes from the chapel of the Brussels painters' guild. The superb Madonna with Saint Peter, John the Baptist, Saint Cosimo and Saint Damian, the Staedel Institute, was executed on the orders of Cosimo de Medici and, in all probability, during the artist's stay in Italy.

His two main styles can be studied at the Madrid museum, first in the famous Descent from the Cross painted in 1440 for the Brotherhood of the Great Oath, a moving, passionate, even forced work with a bright colour (the Berlin museum has a copy from 1488, attributed to the second in the triptych of the Crucifixion (accompanied by the Fall and the Last Judgment), in which we believe we recognize an altarpiece commissioned in 1455 for the Saint-Aubert abbey in Cambrai.
